Water is a strategic resource for an inland province of China that depends heavily on livestock products and agriculture for its economic activities. The Bureau of Water and Agriculture decided to build a monitoring and control system for water level detection, with the field data sent to its regional centre via radio modem.
The general requirements included the need to display water level and flow volume at different gates, a standalone control capability, auto-adjustment of sensors and to compare functions at each point in order to calculate the water level via the flow amount. Additional requirements included wireless transmission capability and good price performance.
The system integrator recommended using the ADAM-4500 PC-based communication controller from Advantech with built-in ROM-DOS, 256K RAM, 256K ROM, RS232 and RS485 COM ports as well as a built-in watchdog timer. The process of improved intelligent monitoring is developed by using a PC-based communication controller with C language and downloaded to the ADAM-4500.
Through the easy use of the ADAM-4500, the Bureau of Water and Agriculture of Shin-Xien is able to economically solve the problem and manage water level over a wide area. In the end, the productivity of local agriculture will be improved.
