Fast and accurate mounter is extremely compact

25 February 2004 Manufacturing / Production Technology, Hardware & Services

A new Yamaha module type surface mounter, the YG200, is compact yet able to achieve very high speed and accuracy. As the top-of-the-line model in Yamaha's series of mid-size module type high-speed surface mounters, the YG200 has a chip mounting speed of 0,08 s per chip. By also adding the capability to mount the increasingly-used super-small 0630 class chips and adopting Yamaha's exclusive multiple accuracy compensation system (MACS), the company says that this model achieves new levels of performance in all aspects, from speed and accuracy to the range of parts it is capable of handling.

Equipped with six multipurpose heads, four multiview digital cameras and two mounting tables for highly efficient mounting, a new Yamaha-developed controller that reduces calculation time, plus a new control method, the YG200 manages to achieve its high speed. Also, a layout designed to prevent interference and collisions by mounting the heads on the operator side, helps achieve superior maintenance performance.

To preserve mounting accuracy, a monocoque frame with a high durability, high-accuracy basic structure helps maintain work accuracy when the machine is moved, as well as ensuring that greater accuracy is maintained over long periods of use.

Yamaha's proprietory MACS achieves full-time mounting accuracy of ±0,05 mm by performing comprehensive and multi-aspect accuracy compensation with regard to such accuracy-distorting factors as the limits of set-up accuracy, temperature changes and discrepancies accumulating over time. Yamaha's FNC (flying nozzle change) system which makes nozzle changes possible without sacrificing production speed, helps achieve both high speed and job flexibility.

The YG200 has external dimensions of 1,95 (L) x 1,85 (H) x 1,41 mm (W) and handles PCBs of dimensions 50 x 50 mm to 330 x 250 mm, with thicknesses 0,4 to 3,0 mm.
