Split-core current transducers

25 February 2004 Interconnection

LEM has released the HOP series of split core current transducers. The HOP 2000-SB transducer shown in the illustration has a capability to measure up to 2000 A a.c. or d.c. or pulsed currents and has a very large window for the cable or bus bar to pass through (163 x 50 mm). Other models in the range are available with circular apertures for the measurement of current, from 50 to 500 A and 600 to 2000 A, with a window of 104 x 40 mm.

Typical applications are telecommunication power supplies, sub-stations etc, where it is not permissible to interrupt current flow to fit a conventional current transducer. Important features of these new products are non-contact current measurement, galvanic isolation between primary (high power) and secondary (measurement) circuit.

Seventeen models for nominal current measurement of from 50 to 2000 A r.m.s. Four different mechanical designs are offered to fit most installations.
