SBC for monitoring and surveillance applications

21 April 2004 Computer/Embedded Technology Commercial (Industry)

The PCI-6870 system from ProMicro can be used for visual confirmation of alarm signals and motion detectors.

With its built-in LAN capabilities, it is ideal for LAN-based remote management, either for realtime control, or for data retrieval, even over the Internet. An added disk array makes an inexpensive convenient storage pool for captured video. For surveillance applications where audio capture is legal, on board AC97 stereo audio capability makes audio capture a reality.

The system is suited for applications where video capability is required in confined areas. A CCTV network is connected to the PCI-6870 teamed up with a video capture card and a disk array. The system can be used to record video of anything from industrial or chemical processes to monitoring the performance of required maintenance tasks. Two COM ports are supported which may be used for additional sensor inputs.

The PCI-6870 systems are ideal for unmanned installations, USB connections may be used for convenient hot swap system maintenance and updates using USB floppy, HDD or CD-ROM.

This SBC is based solely on the PCI bus standard and supports socket 370 Pentium III/Celeron processors. It supports 100/133 system bus and uses the VGA controller in the 815E chipset. The VGA memory is DMA shared and can be further upgraded to 4 MB with an optional module.

There are two serial ports, one RS232 and one RS232/422/485. The PCI-6870's USB interface is USB rev.1.1 compliant. There is a 10/100 Mbps Ethernet interface as well as SIR IrDA compliant infrared support. The PCI IDE interface has two IDE channels and supports four IDE devices with Ultra DMA33 with Bus Mastering up to 33 MBps. In addition, Channel one IDE supports Ultra DMA 33/66/100.
