GHz-class micro operates at under 10 W

Atmel's PC7447A microprocessor is the extended-reliability version of the MPC7447A from Freescale Semiconductor. This is a high-performance, low-power, 32-bit implementation of the PowerPC RISC Instruction Set Architecture and targets massive data processing embedded applications, such as radars and graphic displays, where reliability over severe environmental conditions is a key success factor. The microprocessor can operate at up to 1420 MHz in a military temperature range of -55 to +125°C. A low-power version is also available at 1167 MHz with a power dissipation of 9,2 W and less than 6 W when the processor runs at 600 MHz. It features 512 Kbyte on-chip L2 cache memory, full symmetric multiprocessing support, a 64-bit bus interface and includes Freescale's AltiVec vector processing technology.
