DC/DC controller operates from 1,8 to 20 V

Linear Technology's LT1619; a current-mode step-up DC/DC controller designed for a wide range of SEPIC, flyback and isolated power supplies, uses a lower value of sense resistor compared to other solutions, which improves efficiency up to 5%, says the company. The device's constant 300 kHz operating frequency reduces the value and size of the inductor and capacitors, which also simplifies filtering. Its clock frequency is synchronisable to 500 kHz. The wide input voltage range of 1,8 to 20 V makes it ideal for applications such as flyback, 3X V conversion to 5, 12 or 15 V output in distributed power and 5 to -48 V telecom applications, as well as automotive power supplies.

The LT1619's low 53 mV full-scale sense voltage permits use of the lowest value sense resistor for a given output current minimising I2R losses. To further improve efficiency, the IC's burst mode operation maximises efficiency at light load currents. Its powerful 1,5 A MOSFET driver is designed to drive a low side power transistor simplifying the design of boost, SEPIC, flyback and other topologies. Low 140 µA supply current and 15 µA shutdown conserve battery energy especially important in systems that have a high sleep-to-run time ratio.

The LT1619 is offered in 8-lead MSOP and SOIC packages.
