Philips Semiconductors' front-end tuning and analog signal processing technologies are combined in its new highly-integrated TEF690x family. Greatly reducing the number of external components needed to build high-performance car radios, it simplifies the design process to reduce system costs of existing two-chip solutions by 20-30%, claims Philips. The chips include an AM/FM tuner, stereo decoder, adaptive IF bandwidth control, precision adjacent channel suppression (PACS) and advanced weak signal processing. The devices also offer a highly flexible input selection and the option of an integrated RDS demodulator and/or the connection of an external sound processor or navigation/beep input. The TEF690x chip solutions feature autonomous tuning actions, reducing the amount of software development required for the MCU. Four different devices will be available.
