CAN and LIN chips for in-vehicle fail-safe networking

Royal Philips Electronics has expanded its family of system basis chips (SBCs) designed for building fail-safe electronic control units (ECUs). These ECUs are embedded into control area networks (CANs) and local interconnect networks (LINs) to provide interfacing between the network and applications such as car windows, rain sensors and motor management.
The family of SBCs help prevent ECU failure by integrating a fail-safe system controller that offers extensive diagnostic features, enabling rigorous error handling of any conceivable failure, says Philips. In case of a detected failure the ECU will be put in low-power mode and become invisible to the network thereby not affecting the rest of the network.
The Philips SBC family will cover all CAN and LIN network applications, ranging from local electric window nodes to central engine management and dashboard applications.
