Microchip has added eight new members to its LCD PIC microcontroller family with integrated liquid-crystal display (LCD) module. These additions include what the company says is the world's first 28-pin LCD micros for simple, cost-effective display applications requiring embedded control, and the first programmable 80-pin micros capable of driving 192 segments for touchscreen and segmented LCD displays. The family features Flash program memory, low power consumption and LCD control. Unlike other LCD microcontrollers, Microchip claims its Flash program memory enables maximum flexibility in code development and field reprogrammability. The high-pincount PIC18F8490/8390/ 6490/6390 LCD integrated LCD drivers can drive 128 to 192 LCD segments in 64- and 80-pin packages, respectively. The cost-effective PIC16F917/ 916/914/913 integrated drivers can drive 60 to 96 LCD segments.
