Maxim has introduced what it claims are the industry's smallest I²C, 32-tap, nonvolatile digital potentiometers, packaged in a 3 x 3 mm SOT23 or TDFN. The MAX5432-MAX5435 devices feature an integrated EEPROM that stores the wiper position prior to power-down, enabling them to operate like mechanical potentiometers. The devices also offer ratiometric and end-to-end temperature coefficients as low as 5 ppm/°C and 35 ppm/ °C, respectively. These digital potentiometers require less than 1 μA in standby and operate from a 2,7 V to 5,25 V single supply. The devices are available in two wiper configurations: voltage divider or variable resistor. End-to-end resistances of 50 kilohm and 100 kilohm are available. Four addressing options per device allow multiple devices to share the same I²C bus.
