High memory acoustic playback ICs

4 May 2005 Electronics Technology

Oki has added two new members to its high quality sound and multifunctional speech family. The ML2256 integrates 6 Mbit mask ROM and the ML22Q58 incorporates 8 Mbit of Flash memory, allowing playback duration of up to 260 seconds (at 4 bit ADPCM/8 kHz sampling rate). With the ML2251/52/53/54, ML22Q54 and ML2240, Oki offers mask ROM, Flash and ROMless versions. The ML225x family provides two-channel mixing and mono output while ML2240 provides four channels and stereo output. The ML22Q54/8 incorporate 4 or 8 Mbit Flash and are designed for prototyping, allowing onboard programming and digital data storage. Each device has an independent channel volume control, offering -60 to 0 dB in 2 dB steps. The loop playback function provides memory space saving. The internal 14 bit DAC with a digital lowpass filter and Oki's high precision ADPCM2 algorithm, enhance the sound quality. Both serial and parallel MCU interfacing is available.
