Hiconnex a QPL supplier for Souriau

French supplier of connectors and interconnect products for severe environments, Souriau, appointed Hiconnex as its authorised distributor in southern Africa in December 2004. Souriau officially recognised and awarded the QPL to Hiconnex as a qualified assembler for MIL 26482 series 2 and MIL 38999 series 3 connectors.

Hiconnex, with headquarters in Midrand, is an ISO9001, BEE company of more than 20 years existence. It is a leading supplier of custom cable assemblies for military, avionics, industrial and marine applications.

Souriau is a company focused on the supply of connection technologies for severe environments and has a presence in the world's major aerospace and defence programs. It is also strongly positioned in the railways, geophysical and instrumentation markets. Strongly committed to invest development to provide innovative solutions, the company is structured into cross-functional teams of scientists, engineers and technicians who work closely with customers to bring new products into the market. More than 6% of sales is invested in new product development.

Quality is a key objective for Souriau with particular focus on 'Total Customer Satisfaction'. The widespread application of a Quality Assurance system than spans all processes, is consistent throughout the company and meets the requirements of: ISO 9001/ISO 14001/Mil-STD 790/Nato AQAP 110/Boeing D1-9000/AS-9100.

Souriau trained and assisted the local supplier in setting up its local assembly line in a short space of time. Hiconnex put a talented and quality team together that is hugely customer-driven, providing quality customer service. Hiconnex employees further visited the Souriau plant in France to familiarise themselves exactly with the company processes.

Says Hitesh Pema, Hiconnex managing director: "The opportunity to produce the parts locally, with an extensive inventory of components, gives us the flexibility to get you the product you need within a very short lead-time, at a drastically reduced cost. We offer various option accessories and different termination styles, and stock most of the popular back-shells such as Straight, 45 or 90°, dust caps, cable clamps and strain relieves, sealing plugs and tools. Custom specifications are also considered.

"With our new assembly facility we added value for our customers and we are quite willing to accommodate customers' special requests from special packaging to just in time delivery," he adds.

The MIL 26482 product range for all general-purpose use in military applications offers these features: aluminium alloy in olive green, nickel or black, anodised plating; climate resistant; fluid resistant; safe use and endurance.

The MIL-C38999 product range has high contact density; passivated stainless steel or nickel-plated shell; are fluid resistant; and has safe use and endurance.
