Chip-scale Class-D audio amplifier

ON Semiconductor has introduced to market a 2,65 W Filterless Class-D audio amplifier for portable applications. For a device in a small 1,45 x 1,45 mm, 9-pin chip-scale package (CSP) and an input voltage range of 2,5-5,5 V, the company claims the NCP2820 drives clean audio output with the highest power in the market. It also offers space and cost savings because no output filter is required when using inductive transducers. It can deliver 2,65 W of continuous average power into a 4 Ω bridge-tied load, or 1,4 W into an 8 Ω BTL load with less than 1% THD+N. The up to 90% efficient device has a very low shutdown current of typically 0,42 μA. Its low 42 μV noise floor and A-weighted filter helps ensure clean audio output regardless of the load sensitivity. Also 'Pop and click' noise elimination circuitry ensures no audible noise will be produced during start-up or shut-down.
