Wireless data transceivers lengthen battery life and cut chip count

Atmel's new single-chip ATA542x RF transceiver family targeting 315/345/433/868/915 MHz bands, is a major step in RF transceiver integration. Providing high-level performance for ISM band applications, it has notably lowered current consumption and a 30% cut in the bill-of-materials, according to the company. The Image Rejection Mixer allows elimination of a SAW filter, the Low-IF architecture does not require external IF filter, and the low loss integrated RX/TX switch eliminates need for an external switch - typically allowing 30% reduction in passive components. Low-power consumption (typically, 10 mA in Rx and 15-20 mA in Tx) makes the ATA542x devices particularly suitable for long battery life applications such as automatic meter reading, alarm and security systems, home automation systems, and other wireless remote controllers and telemetry systems. Output power is +10 dBm, and sensitivity is typically -107 dBm/FSK and -114 dBm/ASK.
