For the design of embedded modem applications, Silicon Laboratories is offering a hardware and software development platform.
The C8051F120, a highly integrated 8-bit microcontroller with 100 MIPS throughput, can be combined with the Si2457 ISOmodem, a two-chip 56 Kbps globally-programmable modem designed for quick network access for devices with limited data transmission requirements. According to the manufacturer, the flexibility, integration and mixed-signal performance offered by the C8051F120 and ISOmodem solutions simplifies the development of embedded modem applications.
The technology is demonstrated by the company's Embedded Modem Development Kit which provides all of the hardware and software to create an embedded modem solution. Equipped with Silicon Laboratories' TCP/IP Configuration Wizard, the Embedded Modem Development Kit simplifies importing the stack object code by generating the supporting directory structure and framework code as well as a custom library that describes the selected protocol configuration. The kit also includes the company's integrated development environment (IDE) allowing the designer to expedite embedded modem designs by illustrating each of the steps to create an application.
Silicon Laboratories' development kit uses the CMX Micronet protocol stack, a robust stack for embedded modem applications.
