Designed for basic analog output functionality, Advantech's PCI-1720U has four analog channels with isolation and 12-bit resolution. Like most I/O cards from Advantech, it comes with a universal PCI interface for easier installation in both 5 and 3 V PCI slots.
Current loops are supported for 0 to 20 mA, and the popular 4 to 20 mA. Unipolar output ranges are supported for 0 to 5 V, and 0 to 10 V, while bipolar output ranges are supported for -5 to 5 V and -10 to 10 V. The outputs also support synchronisation to offer better control of signals.
A new feature developed by Advantech is offered for the first time: The new power-on output surge protection (POSP) feature has been developed to prevent the power surges that may occur when an output card is powered on. Even if the default output setting is 0, a small surge may occur. This small output surge can be enough to start a motor, adjust a valve, and create big problems. POSP stops this surge from ever happening.
PCI-1720U also comes with 2500 V d.c. isolation protection between the outputs and the PCI bus, which makes the card useful in industrial environments. It is a cost-effective solution for industrial applications where high-voltage protection is required.
