High frequency oscillator family very stable
21 September 2005, DSP, Micros & Memory

Silicon Laboratories' Si530 and Si550 families of oscillators (XOs) and voltage-controlled oscillators (VCXOs) are claimed to offer total frequency stability over time and temperature that is more than five times better than leading SAW devices. Using the company's DSPLL technology, they support frequency ranges from 10 MHz to 1,4 GHz, provide ultra-low jitter performance (<0,3 ps rms typical OC-192) and offer new features that have been unavailable in high-frequency oscillators based on SAW resonators or inverted-mesa crystals. These features include dual and quad frequency operation as well as selectable voltage gain (Kv) for VCXO devices. By moving the frequency control and tuning into single mixed-signal CMOS IC, complex manufacturing steps have been either eliminated or simplified.
