World-class turnkey manufacturing standards - for Africa

19 October 2005 Manufacturing / Production Technology, Hardware & Services

State-of-the-art manufacturing facilities, uncompromised quality standards and a commitment to exceptional customer service.

These are the stated hallmarks of RC&C Manufacturing, a specialist provider of world-class electronic and turnkey manufacturing solutions. Located in Parow, Cape Town, RC&C Manufacturing is an operating division of Reunert Consumer and Commercial Holdings, which in turn is owned by Reunert Limited, an industrial holdings group.

RC&C Manufacturing, which began trading in 1978 as Panasonic Manufacturing Company, is configured to manufacture and assemble electronic components and products. Since inception, it has produced an extensive range of National and Panasonic branded products under licence from Japan's Matsushita Electric Industrial (MEI) These include from car audio products, through hi-fi systems, televisions and analog/digital recorders, to airconditioner units. More recently, the company has diversified into other product lines, such as high volume professional and automated printed circuit board assemblies, plus final product assembly of alternative house-brand televisions (some 200 000 television sets come off its lines each year, along with more than a million other assemblies).

Importantly, RC&C Manufacturing has been profitable from the outset. The company attributes this to its dedicated focus on electronic manufacturing solutions, allowing it to establish an extensive base of knowledge and expertise in this area. This, coupled with commitment to world-class production standards built on state-of-the-art technology, has enabled it to become a leader in the local consumer electronics market. Its quality (it has held ISO quality accreditation since 1993) and high standard of customer service has earned it the respect and support of both customers and consumers.

So, what does RC&C Manufacturing offer the marketplace?

For starters, it explains, through its experience and expertise it has created the capacity and know-how to set-up virtually any type of assembly line for electronics. Secondly, its in-house value engineering/industrial engineering department has the expertise to ensure that every item it produces is geared to fulfil the needs of its target market. Then there is the wide range of assembly and manufacturing services it offers, which include:

* Professional electronic assembly;

* Electrical assembly.

* Electromechanical assembly.

* Automatic component placement (glue/paste surface mount and through-hole).

* Wave soldering.

* Final product assembly.

* Total supply chain solution.

* Value engineering.

* Materials management.

In addition, notes the company, as a good corporate citizen RC&C Manufacturing contributes more to the South African economy than just sales revenue: it provides employment to 280 people, who receive competitive remuneration and benefits packages as well as enjoy access to skills training and development opportunities; its human resources policies are underscored by commitment to employment equity and black economic empowerment, the latter driven through affirmative procurement wherever possible and appropriate.

With all this to its credit, RC&C Manufacturing is well equipped to offer cost-effective manufacturing solutions to both local and international electronics brands. At the same time, the company is helping South Africa not only to grow and develop, but also to sustain its status as the economic hub of Africa.
