Linear Technology's LT 1405 12 bit, 5 MSa/s analog-to-digital converter (ADC) operates single 5 or ±5 V supplies with only 115 mW of power dissipation and features AC specs of 71,3 dB SINAD and 85 dB SFDR as the Nyquist frequency of 2,5 MHz. It can also under-sample signals all the way up to 100 MHz. At 70 MHz the typical SFDR is 63 dB. DC specs include INL error of ±0,35 LSB and DNL error of ±0,25 LSB. These specifications make LTC1405 ideal for communications, high-speed data acquisition and imaging systems.
The LTC1405 has a flexible on-board PGA that allows three different bipolar input ranges of ±2,048, ±1,024 or ±0,512 V. This feature eliminates the need for external PGAs and level shifting circuits required by other ADCs and enables direct connection of unipolar or bipolar inputs. The LTC1405's unique differential input sample-and-hold can acquire single-ended or differential signals up to 100 MHz. Its 75 dB common-mode rejection eliminates ground loops and common-mode noise. A separate output logic supply provides additional flexibility by allowing direct connection to 3 V components.
The LTC1405's internal precision reference can be used for external circuitry or can be overridden by an external source. The LTC1405 is offered in the 28-pin SSOP package and is pin-compatible with the LTC1420, a 12 bit, 10 MSa/s ADC, which provides an easy upgrade patch.
