With a digital temperature sensor, 64 bit ROM ID, 3,0 V to 5,5 V supply range, and 12 bit resolution, Dallas Semiconductor's DS18B20 one-wire digital thermometer is well-suited for battery pack applications. Many of today's battery packs contain a thermistor for measuring temperature and a resistor to provide an ID. The DS18B20 provides these functions on one chip with just three connections between the pack and the host-Pack +, Pack -, and the one-wire data line-without the need of an external A/D or thermistor. Plus the small 8-pin SOIC and flip chip packages make it especially ideal for battery packs.
