Shock-safe fuseholder for surface mounting

25 January 2006 Interconnection

Schurter has extended its FPG series to include a version for SMD mounting. Like the original FPG5 through-hole design, the new FPG7 accepts 5 x 20 mm cartridge fuses. The fuse carrier is available either as screwdriver slot knob or as fingergrip knob.

The new fuse block is made of RoHS compliant materials that are heat resistant and compatible with reflow solder processes. It is approved by VDE for 10 A and UL/CSA for 16 A @ 250 V a.c. It has a rated power acceptance of 2,5 W @ 10 A at 23°C ambient air temperature. The FPG7 is specifically designed for automating assembly, with packaging options that facilitate faster pick-and-place.

Cartridge fuses are used predominantly throughout the world as an inexpensive and effective means of circuit protection. The FPG7 is well suited in applications where an SMD type printed circuit board is used, and where access to the fuse from outside through a panel of the equipment is needed. It is also ideally suited for equipment wherein PCB are stock mounted. Vertical access to a fuse block or clip is not possible without dismounting the boards.
