Circuit & System Protection

A proven leader in reliable circuit protection solutions

22 March 2006 Circuit & System Protection

Littelfuse has been providing circuit protection solutions for over 75 years and boasts a large portfolio of circuit protection products. Customers can choose from GDTs, switching thyristors, TVS diode and diode arrays, varistors, SIDACtor devices, fuses, resettable PTCs, PulseGuard suppressors and more.

With a strong reputation for quality and selection, the Littelfuse brand has become a leading standard in almost every product that requires electrical energy. Typical application areas include computers, consumer electronics, automobiles, handheld devices, industrial equipment and telecom/datacom circuits.

Beyond its breadth of product offerings, the company uses its experience and application expertise to comprehensively evaluate customers' application challenges. The result, it says, is a unique partnership that allows it to be 'proactive' rather than 'reactive' to the wants and needs of its customers. In addition to rigorous quality measures, Littelfuse also offers an extensive portfolio of products that are lead-free and RoHS-compliant.

No stranger to innovation, Littelfuse has dedicated itself to developing application-specific solutions for even the most demanding requirements. The latest example of Littelfuse innovation is the introduction of the SL0902 Series to the Greentube family of gas plasma arresters. Designed for use in broadband and high-speed telecommunications, the SL0902 series is a miniature gas plasma arrester (GDT) designed to be a viable alternative to silicon surge protectors when high bandwidth and low capacitance are required.

The smallest 'broadband optimised' gas plasma arrester, the SL0902, enables performance enhancement through a combination of low insertion loss, no capacitance variation with voltage and temperature, and excellent voltage clamping - all of which are requirements for broadband equipment in order to prevent surge damage while maintaining data integrity. The SL0902 is also designed to work in conjunction with the Littelfuse TeleLink surface mount fuse, in applications where both fusing and surge protection are necessary, and it does this within a very small footprint.

Whether customers need just one product, like the SL0902, to address a specific issue, or if they require an extensive array of design solutions, products are readily available through the Littelfuse global distribution network, locally in South Africa from Arrow Altech Distribution.

With research and manufacturing facilities in China, England, Germany, Ireland, Mexico, the Philippines and the United States, Littelfuse states that its customers can be confident that it is prepared to provide solid circuit protection solutions, innovative technologies and industry-leading technical expertise as they expand into the future. It is with this focus that Littelfuse has become a world-leading provider of circuit protection solutions, and it intends to continue leading the charge for years to come.
