Adapter connects any cellphone to booster antenna

19 April 2006 Telecoms, Datacoms, Wireless, IoT

Poynting Antennas has developed a range of GSM cellphone range extender antennas to help users overcome typical 'low signal' problems. Since many of the latest cellphones on the market do not allow for an external antenna to be linked to the cellphone, Poynting invented a novel new product - a universal cellphone-to-antenna adapter that the company claims can link any cellphone to an external antenna.

The antenna adapter consists of a flat plastic sleeve with a 50 cm cable that terminates in an FME (male) connector. The plastic sleeve (that looks similar to a cellphone battery) encloses a device that is able to couple to the phone signal and divert it to a booster antenna, so ensuring better cellular reception. The sleeve of the coupler is placed against the back of any phone, irrespective of whether it has a camera or not, or is slide open or flip open. The other end is then connected to one of Poynting's booster antennas.

This unique product was designed in, and is being manufactured in South Africa.
