Circular cable assemblies offer reliable high-density solution

17 May 2006 Interconnection

To meet the escalating performance requirements mandated by a number of industries, Molex has developed the Circular MT Cable Assemblies, an extension to its MT product offering. These Cable Assemblies provide a reliable, high-density solution for telecom equipment applications, such as hubs, routers and data centres; and instrumentation and medical equipment applications, such as test equipment, switches and video systems.

With their metal housing and stainless steel push-pull locking ring, the company says the Circular MT Cable Assemblies offer a more robust MT ferrule-based interface, compared to ribbon-based optical interfaces that are traditionally rectangular. This enhanced design ensures improved alignment benefits, increased pull-strength and enhanced fibre management. The recessed MT ferrule in both the connector and receptacle housing ensures it is scoop-proof, preventing damage to the precise MT alignment pins and ferrule endface during connector handling and mating. The use of 12 to 72 loose fibres in a single round ruggedised cable improves fibre management over traditional flat ribbon assemblies by allowing 360ø cable rotation.

Further, the O-ring and EMI gasket provides a design that helps to isolate dust, moisture and EMI to ensure optimal performance.
