In-house PCB through-hole plating without chemicals
31 May 2006Manufacturing / Production Technology, Hardware & Services
LPKF's new ProConduct product introduces innovative technology to produce plated through-holes, which does not require a plating tank or potentially hazardous processing chemicals. This compact system is said to be extremely fast and easy to use.
Its rapid parallel processing method is claimed to deliver completely safe, reliable and thermally stable via plating results for double-sided or multilayer boards.
Circuit board prototypes can be fabricated in-house in a single day when the LPKF ProConduct system is combined with an LPKF ProtoMat circuit board plotter, according to the manufacturer, and, with in-house PCB prototyping, designs can get to market faster since production delays and high costs incurred with outside vendors are avoided. Also, valuable design data is more secure.
LPKF ProConduct uses specially-developed plating technology to rapidly plate vias as small as 0,4 mm (15 mil) up to aspect ratio of 1:4. Even smaller holes are possible under special conditions. The entire process can be completed in just a few minutes for double-sided and even multilayer boards. The electrical resistance of LPKF ProConduct plating is extremely low at 19,2 mΩ depending on the material thickness.
New PCB press
LPKF's new products are complemented by the company's multilayer press: the MultiPress II. In-house manufacturing of multilayers using the LPKF MultiPress II, can easily be done in-house. Combined with a LPKF circuit board plotter and a LPKF galvanic through-hole plating system, a 4-layer board can be manufactured in less than 24 hours, according to the company.
The MultiPress II system can also manufacture boards with up to six layers, as well as rigid-flexible circuits.
