Designed specifically for telematics and automotive navigation products, the RF8009 global positioning system receiver from RF Micro Devices is a fully integrated, plug-and-play 12-parallel-channel GPS receiver module that simplifies product design and implementation, helping original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) quickly design turnaround GPS solutions. By using a rapid acquisition model, the RF8009 features highly accurate rapid time to first fix (TTFF) and signal re-acquisition. The receiver includes novel baseband DSP logic, which aids the signal acquisition and re-acquisition process and enhances overall GPS functionality by accommodating most commonly available as well as custom GPS antenna options. Designed to withstand the harsh environments required of automotive electronics, the GPS receiver's RF front end is manufactured using silicon germanium (SiGe), providing superior receiver sensitivity and enabling the device to perform robustly in situations where extreme vehicle movement or high signal blockage are concerns - such as dense urban areas. The GPS receiver measures 38 x 38mm.
