Resonator replaces crystal oscillators

Passive Components
For some years now, the only advantage the crystal oscillator (XO) had over the resonator was frequency stability. The XO is bigger, heavier and uses more power. Murata has been reducing that difference. The company's CSTCE-SK ceramic resonator now replaces the ±500 ppm types.
The resonator has other advantages over the XO, the rise-time is about 100 times faster and a load capacitor is built in, reducing occupied space and machine cycles.
The range of frequencies with this stability rating is rising, but Murata has 24 MHz and 30 MHz versions now in production. These are ideal for the latest high speed USB applications. The CSTCE-SK have a reduced size (3,2 x 1,3 x 1,1 mm).
