Fire protection for enclosure systems and housings

Rittal offers innovative fire protection products for enclosures. Its new fire prevention material is highly insulating and is available for all the Rittal technology packaging products, ensuring fire resistance, fire load inhibition and retention of functions for up to 90 minutes.
The new material for fire inhibition is said to be around only a third of the thickness needed by conventional fire inhibitors. Rittal is providing this fire protection for its TS8 top enclosure system, the CM compact system enclosure and for the AE compact enclosure. In addition, the company has terminal housing systems with function retention times of up to 90 minutes. These enclosure systems and housings bear the letters FP for 'fire protection'.
A further advantage for the user - apart from the small amount of external space needed - is the fact that the internal dimensions of the enclosures are unchanged and the protection category offered is also completely unaffected.
In industrial applications, fire protection considers two different aspects: the need to protect and maintain switching and control systems; and the protection of the machines themselves. In the event of fire, the Rittal technology releases the water trapped inside the insulating material, which then evaporates to cool the interior of the enclosure. Another special material is used at cable entry points, which expands when the cable is subjected to heat, preventing chances of thermal bridging.
