Workstations for hygienic environments

Rittal is presenting new, highly functional industrial workstations in stainless steel for applications where hygiene is critical.

In sensitive segments, such as the pharmaceutical or foodstuff industries, it is vital that equipment and components be designed with an eye to hygiene. Rittal is offering novel industrial workstation products made from 'dirt-repelling' stainless steel. The industrial workstation (IW) offers more than a simple work surface but combines modern solutions for desk, PC enclosure and monitor housing in one complete system.

The compact stainless steel lower enclosure section, available in sizes of 760 x 760 x 300 mm (W x H x D), integrates a shelf inside the door that makes it easy to install a tower-style PC, which is also fastened securely to the door with a harness. The lower enclosure is wired, ready for connection, with a socket strip integrated in the right-hand side panel. The 230 V of power needed is supplied via cables from Rittal's selection of accessories. With its foam door seals, this enclosure meets the IP 66 protection class. The mounted cast-iron feet ensure the unit stands safely when stationary. It can also be given mobility by fitting double castors.

The lower enclosure section is topped off by an ergonomic, expansive worktop. Laminated with stainless steel and finished off with overlapping stainless steel edge bands, the company says that this surface meets the most stringent hygiene standards. The smooth stainless steel can be easily cleaned with highly aggressive cleaning agents.

A stainless steel keyboard is integrated in the worktop for data inputting. With its sealed, washable surface and category IP67/IP69K protection, it is also highly suited for use in damp environments and needs only be lightly touched in order to enter data. There are no raised keys with this IP69K protected version - so there are no edges, hollows or gaps in which dirt and bacteria can collect.

A 17" TFT screen (1280 x 1024 pixel) is securely fastened to the worktop. The 17" display is sealed with a special panel and the monitor enclosure, together with its carrier arm, has category IP69K protection.
