Although the MicroTCA base specification has yet to be ratified, many telecom equipment manufacturers are eager to begin utilising the benefits of ATCA's high performance and management capabilities in the lower cost and the smaller form factor known as 'MicroTCA'.
Designed to take advantage of the quickly expanding availability of off-the-shelf AdvancedMC (advanced mezzanine card) products, MicroTCA promises to be an ideal platform for those telecom equipment manufacturers looking for rapid time-to-market deployment.
Schroff has emerged as the premiere hardware supplier supporting AdvancedMC and MicroTCA development. Schroff recently showcased application demos at GlobalComm 2006. The company says its full range of AdvancedMC carriers and modules are currently used in virtually every AdvancedMC product in the market today.
Recently, Schroff introduced the first MicroTCA development system designed to PICMG MicroTCA.0 Rev 0.9 specification. To complement this development system, Schroff has also introduced deployment-ready MicroTCA subrack kits and backplanes.
Schroff is working with leading suppliers to create a robust ecosystem of AdvancedMC and MicroTCA products. The result of the work on the MicroTCA specification will be a flexible, scalable, serviceable platform complementary to AdvancedTCA that will provide system designers with a practical and cost effective means of developing and deploying system solutions for a wide range of small form factor, cost sensitive applications.
