2U subrack for MicroTCA a first

20 September 2006 Enclosures, Racks, Cabinets & Panel Products

MicroTCA is a modular standard with the aim to assemble AdvancedMC modules without a carrier board directly into a backplane. As special mechanical units for the various modules, in half height (HH) and full height (FH) as well as in single width (SW) and double width (DW), 2 and 4U high 19" compatible subracks in PICMG Standard MicroTCA.0 are planned.

Schroff has now developed what it claims is the first real 2U high subrack for the single widths (SW) module.

With a subrack height dimension of 88,1 mm Schroff remains within the 2U grid dimension of 88,9 mm. Other 2U subracks which are offered on the market are higher than the grid dimension, says the company, whereby a smaller number of subracks can be assembled above each other in a cabinet.

The 2U MicroTCA subracks are 200 mm deep and available in variable widths of up to 23" (ETSI width). These simple steel subracks with different finishes can for example be assembled as 19" test systems housed inside a cabinet and used in a laboratory. The smaller versions, built into a case or with an assembly adapter, can serve to house components of a decentralised control unit of machinery.

Provided with a backplane, corresponding power supply and if necessary also cooling units, these simple subracks become MicroTCA complete systems.
