The new fire prevention material being used by Rittal is highly insulating and is available for all the well-known Rittal packaging products. It guarantees fire resistance, fire load inhibition and retention of functions for up to 90 minutes.
This new material is around a third of the thickness needed by conventional fire inhibitors. And Rittal is providing this fire protection for its TS8 top enclosure system, its CM compact system enclosure and for its AE compact enclosure. In addition, it is offering terminal housing systems with function retention times of up to 90 minutes. These enclosure systems and housings bear the letters FP for 'fire protection'.
The internal dimensions are the same, although a small amount of external space is needed. This ensures unchanged internal installation opportunities. The protection category offered is also completely unaffected.
In industrial applications, there are two different aspects in fire protection: the need to protect and maintain switching and control systems; and the machines themselves needs to be protected from fire. So it makes sense to keep any possible sources of fire both small and local. With Rittal's technology, in the event of fire, water trapped inside the insulating material is released, which then evaporates to cool the interior of the enclosure. Another special material is used at cable entry points, which expands when the cable is subjected to heat, preventing any chance of thermal bridging.
