Snap-in aluminium capacitors have high ripple ratings

4 October 2006 Passive Components

Panasonic has developed what it claims is the highest ripple-current rated snap-in aluminium capacitors. The company's TS-EE series is suitable for the switching power supplies of white goods, industrial appliances and televisions.

As power supply circuits of a variety of equipment have become smaller, thinner as well as more effective, aluminium electrolytic capacitors used in the smoothing circuits of power supplies have been required to be more compact as well as more effective for higher levels of ripple current.

The medium-voltage range (200 to 250 V d.c.) can operate from -40 to +105°C, and offers capacitances of 220 to 1800 μF. Ripple current rating is 1,43 to 5,22 A r.m.s. The high-voltage range (400 to 450 V d.c.) can operate from -25 to

+105°C, and offers capacitances of 75 to 560 μF. Ripple current rating is 0,83 to 3,18 A r.m.s. Both ranges have endurances of 3000 hours, guaranteed at 105°C.
