Freescale's 16-bit microcontroller S12X family is optimised for a broad range of cost-sensitive automotive body electronics applications. The family includes six devices for flexibility in choosing different memory, package and cost options to accommodate application requirements. The latest S12XS family provides an economical, compatible extension to the recently announced high-performance S12XE. Both families have complementary memory, peripherals and packages. The S12XS features a streamlined set of on-chip peripheral, memory and package options optimised for automotive body and passenger comfort applications. The S12XS devices are also available in 7 x 7 mm QFN packages - a reduced size for a 16-bit MCU. A widely-adopted 16-bit architecture in the automotive market, Freescale's scalable S12 MCU family offers developers a range of choices for their application needs, with on-chip flash scaling from 32 KB to 1 MB and a smooth migration path to higher performance S12X devices.
