Hirose's connector series for use with Secure Digital (SD) cards have a profile of 2,9 mm and are fully-compliant with the requirements of SD, SDIO and MMC card interfaces. SD cards are a compact form of memory storage, and designers looking to use the minimum amount of PCB space will be interested to learn that the Hirose product is only 28 mm wide and 30,5 mm deep.
Hirose's DM1 series offers standard or reverse options, both with push to insert and push to eject mechanisms. Standard features include write protection, card-detect switches, and all are shielded with card ground contacts for use with SDIO cards.
A 'soft lock' retention feature allows the card to be accidentally removed without using the ejection mechanism, but avoids damage to the card or connector. The soft lock system will retain the card in place up to a force of approximately 4 N. Four PCB retention tabs secure the connector on the PCB for additional strength as well as providing a grounding point.
The connectors are designed for 10 000 mating cycles, with a contact resistance of 80 mΩ.
