Panasonic Electronic Devices has commercialised a 4 mm square double-action light touch switch, said to have the industry's smallest switch size, as the operational device of an auto-focus shutter function used for digital still-cameras and mobile phones.
In mobile phones with the camera function, as well as digital still-cameras, double-action switches that activate an auto-focus function have been required. Also, as devices have become smaller with multifunctions, double-action switches have been required to be smaller, thinner, and have a longer life.
Panasonic achieved the small switch size by combining two movable contacts optimally, using a unique structure laminating the two movable contacts. The structure isolating the contacts eliminates the mutual interference and provides a longer life.
The EVPAH double-action light touch switch measures 4,0 x 4,1 mm (LxW) and is 0,6 mm high. It has an operating life of 100 000 cycles (1,6 N type).
