Robust 600 V single-channel drivers

International Rectifier has introduced a series of robust single-channel high-voltage integrated circuits (HVIC) for a wide range of applications including motor control, lighting, switch mode power supplies, industrial and welding, and solar panel battery chargers. Compared to optocouplers, the company claims its IRS2117/8 family of 600 V high-side single-channel driver ICs provide lower input current of 40 μA and an output signal of 0 to 15 V to reduce part count and simplify circuit design. The devices' lower quiescent current of 340 μA, under-voltage lockout feature and maximum junction temperature (Tj) of 150°C will enable more robust and reliable performance, it says. These devices feature common mode rejection of 50 V/ns. The output driver is logic input compatible with standard CMOS outputs. The floating channel can be used to drive an N-channel power MOSFET or IGBT in the high-side or low-side configuration, operating up to 600 V.
