Speakers for underwater applications

Based on its expertise in the vibration characteristics of piezo ceramic material and micro acoustics, Sonitron has developed what it claims to be the first flat piezo ceramic speaker for underwater applications.

This speaker is based on a completely new principle of piezo ceramics and composite metal/polymer layer. The composite membrane reduces unwanted resonance peaks to provide a more even frequency response than can be achieved with conventional designs. The frame and front panel are injection moulded to form one solid unit. At the back side the PCB is completely sealed at its edges with a water-tight glue to prevent any penetration of water inside the speaker.

The SPS-4640-UW-01 speaker also features very low weight, limited distortion and low energy consumption relative to its sound output level. Piezo ceramic speakers do not generate an electromagnetic field, thereby making it easier for designers to ensure that their products meet EMC requirements and regulations.
