Maxim has released the MAX3397E 2-channel, bidirectional level translator in a tiny, 2 mm x 2 mm microDFN package, specified for the extended temperature range of -40°C to +85°C. This device provides level shifting for data transfer in a multivoltage system by accepting voltage ranges from +1,2 V to +5,5 V on the VL side and +1,65 V to +5,5 V on the ±15 kV ESD-protected Vcc side. Over the specified operating-voltage ranges, the device provides a guaranteed data rate of 8 Mbps. The low supply voltage, small package, and ESD protection of this device make it ideal for data transfer between low-voltage ASICs/PLDs and higher voltage systems. The IC features an enable pin that activates the shutdown mode by disconnecting the internal 10 kilo-ohm pullup resistors on the I/O Vcc and VL lines. This forces the I/O lines to a high-impedance state and decreases the supply current to less than 1 μA.
