Recom has expanded its R-78 range of switching regulators with three new series covering wide input voltage ranges, higher output currents and higher input voltages, while still featuring the small SIP3 footprint.
The R-78Bxx-1.0 offers output voltages from 1,5 V to 15 V d.c. at a maximum output current of 1 A with the full input voltage range of up to 34 V d.c. It is also available with 90° pins so that it can be laid flat on the PCB to save board height.
The R-78Bxx-1.5 offers output voltages from 1,5 V to 6,5 V d.c. at a maximum output current of 1,5 A with an input voltage range of up to 18 V d.c. Like the 1 A version, it is also guaranteed to work in an ambient temperature from -40°C to +85°C without forced cooling, and is also available with 90° pins.
The R-78HBxx-0.5 offers output voltages from 3,3 V to 24 V d.c. at a maximum output current of 0,5 A with an input voltage range as wide as 9 to 72 V d.c. This converter features 96% conversion efficiency, typically 20 mVp-p ripple and noise, 1 mA quiescent current and up to 1,2 A peak current output over the full temperature range.
Applications that will benefit from this extension to the R-78 switching converter range include replacing up to 3 A linear regulators in power supplies (unlike linear regulators, these regulators can be run continuously at 100% load without the need for derating), industrial 24 V d.c. power supplies, high voltage battery powered supplies (24 V, 48 V or 60 V battery packs) and universal input power supplies (eg, a 5 V regulated output from any supply voltage between 9 V and 72 V).
