Microchip's new MCP1703 is a 250 mA low dropout regulator (LDO) with low quiescent current of just 2 μA and high input voltage of up to 16 V. The new LDO features device- and circuit-protection capabilities including over-voltage protection and thermal shutdown. The MCP1703 also offers highly accurate output-voltage regulation, including ±2% over-temperature accuracy, helping to ensure smooth, reliable system operation. The new device is available in 3-pin SOT-223, SOT-23A and SOT-89 packages, and is ideal for applications requiring long battery run-times and high tolerance to input voltage variations, such as smoke detectors, fire alarms and thermostats.
