Because office computers are cheap, powerful and reliable, they are extensively used in the factory environment. But higher performance means more heat generation. Heat management is vital where computers are installed in environmental enclosures for protection against dust and other airborne contaminants.

If one avoids filtered air solutions due to the filter maintenance requirement, the only option left is for a totally sealed enclosure. Safe operating temperatures can quickly be exceeded if heat is not controlled, and the equipment will not meet its expected lifespan, or could fail unexpectedly, resulting in expensive downtime.

Although imported heat exchanger and active cooling products are available in South Africa, they are often expensive or not available off the shelf.

DrakEng Technologies’ Air2Air II heat exchanger was originally designed for the company’s existing range of Clean-Cab computer enclosures and is ideally suited for any enclosure housing electronic equipment with a heat load similar to that of an office PC.
