Through-hole power bead inductor series

19 September 2007 Passive Components

Pulse has released two series of through-hole power bead inductors for desktop architectures.

The PA1894NL and PA2080NL series use a single-turn conductor with a ferrite core instead of a multiturn conductor wound on a powdered iron toroid core. This improved structure allows for a claimed 2% to 3% increase in Vcore voltage regulator efficiency, a 35% to 55% reduction in inductor footprint, and is said to enable the tightest direct current resistance (DCR) tolerance available in the industry at ±4%. The operating temperature is -40°C to +130°C. The use of ferrite core material makes these inductors immune to thermal ageing, thereby increasing system reliability.

The PA2080NL series is 10,5 mm long x 7,5 mm wide x 8,9 mm high, with inductances ranging from 140 nH to 220 nH, a DCR of 0,49 mW ±4% and up to 80 A peak. The PA1894NL series is 10,0 mm long x 9,0 mm wide x 10,0 mm high, with inductances between 185 nH and 335 nH, a DCR of 0,64 mW ±4% and up to 72 A peak. The footprint of the inductor series is designed to fit the pin-pitch of existing toroid solutions for easy test and verification. These power bead inductors are designed for use in power supplies for microprocessors (Vcore power circuit) in desktop, gaming, server and workstation applications.
