Linear Technology's LT1930, a 1 A DC-DC converter in a SOT23 package, has a high 1,2 MHz operating frequency and, according to the company, offers the smallest solution size for generating a 5 V output from a battery voltage as low as 2,6 V.

The 36 V-rated switch on the LT1930 makes it an ideal device for boost converters up to 34 V, as well as for SEPIC (single-ended primary inductance converters) and flyback designs. The LT1930 can generate 480 mA at 5 from 3,3V input, or 300 mA at 12 from 5 V input. Its small form factor, minimal external part count and high efficiency make it the ideal choice for conversion needs in modems, XDSL power supplies and medical diagnostic equipment.

The LT1930 is pin-to-pin compatible with the LT1613. It operates from a 2,6 to 16 V supply and features an internal 1 A, 40 V switch. The high 1,2 MHz switching frequency enables the use of small, low-cost capacitors and inductors, which minimises the total PCB footprint (8 x 10 mm) and maintains a height profile below 2 mm. The device's low 0,01 µA shutdown current virtually eliminates battery drain during shutdown, extending operating time in portable devices.

The LT1930 is available in a 5-lead SOT-23 package.
