5,8 GHz ISM transceiver

12 November 2008 Telecoms, Datacoms, Wireless, IoT

The ML5805 from RF Micro Devices is a 5,8 GHz ISM band transceiver with an integrated power amplifier. It is a low-IF, frequency shift key (FSK) transceiver for proprietary point-to-point and point-to-multipoint radios increasingly being implemented in consumer applications such as wireless audio, wireless video and data connectivity.

The device integrates the power amplifier (PA) and low noise amplifier (LNA) with the transceiver architecture onto a single chip. It provides radio designers the flexibility to optimise each application by offering five digitally selectable data rates ranging from 576 Kbps up to 2048 Mbps.

The ML5805 incorporates proprietary FastWave microcontroller technology, which improves performance through value-add features including self-alignment of the low-IF receiver and phase locked loop (PLL) detection and control. FastWave also provides flexible user-specific application configurations by allowing modifications via a three-wire serial interface to transceiver control, calibration and interface algorithms.

Technical specifications include:

* Integrated PA delivering +21 dBm typical output power.

* Receive sensitivity to -97 dBm at 0,1% bit error rate.

* Fractional-N synthesiser performance with 30 Hz resolution.

* Self-Calibrating VCO and filters that eliminate tuning.
