Typical inductive power entry filters incorporating commonly used coils result in heat dissipation, large dimensions and higher unit weight.
Additionally, the wired components used in such filters do not allow effective filtering in the HF range.
Using SMD technology, filters are more effective in reducing RFI, since such filters can be placed closer to the source of interference. Spectrum Control’s new modular power entry filters successfully employ the company’s PSM series of SMD filters in a parallel circuit.
The PSM series features current capability of 20 A and 200 V d.c. and filters with additional shielding can be effective up to the GHz range. For lower frequencies, performance can be improved by the addition of SMD inductors and capacitors. In this way, a compact 20 A PCB-module has been achieved, offering effective attenuation over the range of 150 kHz to 2 GHz.
