Multi-axis laser marking workstation

18 February 2009 Manufacturing / Production Technology, Hardware & Services

Lasit has introduced its newest generation CompactMark, a multi-axis rugged, industrial laser marking workstation with a wide range of features offering versatility and increased production capability. The system is available with fibre, Nd:Yag, YV04, and C02 lasers.

When marking cylindrical parts or parts with varying angles and different sides, the rotating scan head can be employed to mark large trays rather than individual parts. Multiple lines of text as well as logos can be wrapped 140° around the circumference of the parts or placed on different heights or angles without moving the parts. The system can be fully programmable to mark multiple sides, curved surfaces and different locations without re-fixturing the parts.

The CompactMark can also be equipped with an optional fully automatic W axis (rotary indexer) to minimise any downtime in changing over from the table to the rotary indexer. The fully enclosed rigid welded al-steel Class One system with pneumatic doors is ideal for marking metals, plastics and many organic materials. Fully air-cooled and with a small footprint, reliable fibre lasers can offer over 100 000 hours mean time before failure with no costly replacement consumables.

The XYZ control is optimised through the use of a smooth joystick. Together with the flexible preview features and the SmartFocus, the system is designed for ease of use in positioning various single parts. The system boasts a full 48 x 38 cm pallet that provides high throughput when marking multiple parts. Custom expanded enclosures are also available.

The automatic Z axis allows for height clearance up to 40 cm. The system can be customised with five axes and additional features including W axis, pick-and-place, palletised shuttles, conveyors and pneumatic lifts, as well as an expanded work are for increasing productivity when marking large trays or pallets of parts.

When cylindrical marks are required, the CompactMark can be equipped with an optional fully automatic W axis (rotary indexer) to minimise any downtime in changing over from the table to the rotary indexer.

Software provides for marking alphanumeric text, bar codes, 2D data matrix, graphics, logos, serialisation as well as on-the-fly processing with encoder feedback. Materials such as steel, aluminium, titanium, anodised aluminium, brass, silver, gold and other coated metals, as well as plastics, can be marked with this system.

The rigid welded steel body provides precision machining, which allows for repeatable positioning as well as precise marking when using additional fixtures to support the parts. The motors are all servo driven with 2048 lines per revolution and an integrated encoder, which prevents marking the parts in the wrong position.
