MicroTCA power connectors

4 March 2009 Interconnection

FCT manufactures a range of power connectors for the modular μTCA standard.

μTCA (micro telecommunications computing architecture), a standard introduced by PICMG, regulates the construction of sub-assembly mounting and complete system units. The standard describes the requirements when AdvancedMCs (advanced mezzanine cards) are directly driven by a backplane. In addition to safeguarding the AdvancedMC, these specifications regulate the general requirements and attributes of μTCA systems with regard to their mechanics, electronics and internal management.

The μTCA standard was developed as a high speed system platform both for the high demands in the telecommunications branch as well as for the requirements of the industrial sector. The specifically designed AdvancedMCs for the telecommunication branch are mounted directly on the backplane. This allows for the costs of components, electronics and accessories to be reduced and the advantages of high data rates, maintenance of redundancies and retention of modularity can be used.

FCT’s μTCA power connectors are designed for use in the existing power module of the μTCA system. They feature a particularly flat and robust design, which enables easy mating and unmating of cards. Suited to these requirements, the new FMI connector series is available in 9,4 W, 7,2 W and 5,5 W variants, with single and dual ports.
