Active audio noise cancellation ICs

27 May 2009 Analogue, Mixed Signal, LSI

austriamicrosystems has introduced two new additions to its high performance audio product family. The AS3501 and AS3502 are ICs enabling the design of receive path active noise cancelling solutions providing enhanced system performance and low power consumption.

The AS3501 is a highly integrated solution for feedforward noise cancellation and the AS3502 enables active noise cancellation for feedback solutions where the microphone of the system is acoustically close to the loudspeaker. Both ICs operate from a single 1,0 V to 1,8 V supply and combine true ground headphone amplifier stages with flexible noise cancelling architectures. Internal user-definable register settings allow different device configurations to lend differentiation and flexibility for a broad end-product portfolio. The devices operate in either standalone mode, suitable for accessories, or embedded mode, suitable for integration into music players and other portable multimedia equipment.

The AS3501 and AS3502 are able to provide up to 34 mW in single-ended mode and over 100 mW in BTL into 16 loudspeakers from a 1,5 V supply. The devices further guarantee signal-to-noise ratio above 100 dB and less than 0,1% total harmonic distortion. An innovative calibration solution removes the need for manual intervention during the manufacturing process and improves field reliability.

The AS3501 is available in a 24-pin 4 x 4 mm QFN package; the AS3502 is available in a 32-pin 5 x 5 mm QFN package. Both are suitable for operating environments ranging from -20°C to +70°C.
