Lapp Cable's renewable energy offering

Power Electronics / Power Management
Lapp Cable offers a specially matched range of cables for the generation of wind and solar energy.
Today the company is one of the leading suppliers worldwide for builders of wind energy units. As a result of the thermal and mechanical requirements for the units that are up to 100 metres high and 14 tons in weight, the energy measuring, data and control cables must be especially tough and able to withstand extreme pulling and twisting loads. Generally ÖLFLEX Classic 110 control cables are used for the cabling of the gondola, highly flexible ÖLFLEX FD Classic PVC power chain cables for the transition to the gondola in the tower, and UNITRONIC data cables, EPIC industrial connectors and HITRONIC fibre-optic cables for the installation of the machine house.
The cables that Lapp has to offer under the LAPPTHERM SOLAR brand have been a particular success. There are four different product lines that Lapp has to offer in this regard: LAPPTHERM SOLAR plus, LAPPTHERM SOLAR XL, LAPPTHERM SOLAR SR and LAPPTHERM SOLAR V4A, which offer solutions for everything to do with solar panels and have been customised for the relevant special requirements for use at locations around the world. All these products are resistant to weather, UV, temperature, heat-ageing and hydrolysis.
The new EPIC SOLAR cabling system is optimised for the requirements of photovoltaic technology, and is available as a pre-assembled and industrial injection moulded cord set with connector.
In South Africa, Lapp also has a sister company called SolarCon which offers a full range of solar and wind products. The company is able to consult, design, supply and implement renewable energy solutions, as well as offering solar and wind energy training at the Lapp training centre in Johannesburg. This training covers the basics including batteries, inverters, sizing, foundations and more.
